Ammonium Hexafluorosilicate - (NH4)2SiF6 - 99 % - 100 g

Chemical formula: (NH4)2SiF6

Synonyms: ammonium fluorosilicate, ammonium fluosilicate, ammonium silicofluoride
Amount: 100 g

Appearance and odour: white crystalline powder without appreciable odour

Grade: 99 %

Packaging: professional wide necked, white HDPE bottle with blue conical seal cap and tamper ring. Labelled. Bottle and cap are UN approved and reusable.

Description and uses: It is non-combustible. It corrodes aluminum. Used as a disinfectant, in etching glass, metal casting, and electroplating. The hardening of Plaster of Paris (Gypsum) is another application which probably relies on the formation of hard and insoluble CaF2.

This chemical is the basic ammonium salt of hexafluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6). In solution it is slightly alkaline due to hydrolysis:

SiF6(2-)(aq) + H2O(l) === > HSiF6(-)(aq) + OH-(aq)

The potassium salt of hexafluorosilicic acid is poorly soluble in water, the corresponding barium salt is water insoluble.

Hexafluorosilicates are considered ‘imperfect complexes’ and are similar in that respect to the salts of hexachlorostannic acid (H2SnCl6) and hexachloroantimonic acid (HSbCl6).
